The Captain America actor had been showing a screen recording of his family playing the charades game “Heads Up!” on an Instagram story, when the video ended and his camera roll appeared on screen.
Among the thumbnails of photos that were displayed was an image that appeared to show male genitals. There was another of the star’s face with text reading: “Guard that p***y”.
The 39-year-old removed the Instagram story immediately, however not before fans had an opportunity to take screenshots of the explicit photo which is now being widely shared on social media.
“Chris Evans” is now trending on Twitter with users sharing their reactions to the nude image.
Among those reactions are fans calling on people to stop sharing the images and respect Evans’s privacy.
Some users are also attempting to drown out the nude photos with more wholesome content of the Knives Out actor, such as photos of Evans with his dog Dodger.
His Avengers co-star Mark Ruffalo is among those who have defended Evans in light of his mistake.
Rufallo shared a post on Twitter, stating: “@ChrisEvans Bro, while Trump is in office there is NOTHING you could possibly do to embarrass yourself. See… silver lining.”
There is no confirmation whose camera roll was displayed, and Evans has not yet addressed the leak.
